The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon YouTube channel is known for posting some of the most popular videos on YouTube, featuring hilarious highlights from the show including comedy sketches, music parodies, celebrity interviews, ridiculous games, and, of course, Jimmy's Thank You Notes and Hashtags. On-air segments such as Wheel of Impressions, Classroom Instruments, and Lip Sync Battles are designed with YouTube in mind, and the results have always been extraordinary.

This was our most successful year on YouTube so far, with some pretty  impressive stats:

  • 2.5B views in 2015 (+57% over 2014)
  • 4.6M subscribers gained in 2015 (+9% over 2014)
  • 20 videos with 10M+ views
  • 303 videos with 1M+ views
  • With over 55 millions views, the "Lip Sync Battle with Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart and Jimmy Fallon" was one of the top 5 videos on all of YouTube in 2015

This year we’ve focused on engaging directly with creators and fans so that we could truly become part of the YouTube community. On our channel we actively engage with fans in the comments, create custom video end cards with Jimmy, and use fan feedback to help shape our web exclusive programming. On the show, we look for opportunities to expose YouTube stars like Miranda Sings and Grace Helbig to the Tonight Show audience and highlight popular YouTube originated games, such as the Whisper Challenges.  We love seeing YouTube creators adopt games from our show, like Egg Russian Roulette, while attending VidCon each year gives us another chance to engage with fans and creators in a meaningful way.

One of the coolest things to happen on the show this year actually started on YouTube, the #AndrewShadowJimmy campaign. A teen named Andrew Kochamba, produced a great YouTube video asking to shadow Jimmy as part of his senior year “Shadow” day. Jimmy saw the video, loved it, and decided to make the campaign a reality. We put our own video of calling on YouTube, then flew him to NYC to shadow Jimmy for the day. Because of his video, Andrew got come to the show, interview Jimmy live on Meerkat and even joined that night’s guests on the couch at the end of the show.

Some of the content that we’re most proud of has never run on-air, such as our web-exclusive musical series called “Backstage Acoustic”. In these videos, Tonight Show musical guests give web-exclusive acoustic performances backstage in our music room. Sometimes they collaborate with The Roots and, sometimes, even Jimmy joins in. Artists that have participated include some of the biggest names in music, including Ed Sheeran, Hozier, Rascal Flatts, and Ludacris. Fan reaction has been amazing, with the series amassing over 10m views on YouTube. Content like this demonstrates how the Tonight Show YouTube channel is truly an extension of the Tonight Show brand – featuring not only the best clips from the show, but also content that fans can’t get anywhere else.
